DESIGN STATEMENT.
How to merge a denser public agenda with the need of HUGE areas of restrictive and specific use –Memorial Stadium-?
Nature + infrastructure + people
Multiuse areas tend to fail in their intentions and end up in a blurred nothingness that doesn’t solve any of the problems (Master Plan2008 and the Memorial Stadium), the proposal raises the only element that needs a separated and clear use distinction (the football field), giving it the necessary use requirements while not taking any of the space of the park. This action frees the park from any of the burdens that a stadium will bring and provides a covered area that can be used for seasonal markets, public presentations and forums, sport activities, skating, etc…
With the field already raised and the park running underneath towards the eastern avenue, the stands are formalized by folding up the park vertically generating a sweeping canopy that serves as the main entrance to the park and the center. The stands are a sloped lawn that rises and looks back towards the stadium and the park.
The raised football field can still be used as a public open element, becoming a raised lawn with privileged views of the surroundings, but it can also be closed and detached for private events.
The parking and the transport HUB are place underground under the footprint of the stadium, concentrating all the built elements of the park in one area
